“Uncle Willie told me before he died…”

Ralph McTell says of recording his 1974 album, ‘Easy’, “It wasn’t”. Tony Visconti produced the first few tracks, but was taken off the project, leaving Ralph to complete it with Danny Thompson.

One of the songs on the album includes a reverential reference to Blind Willie McTell, from whom Ralph had taken his stage name: “Uncle Willie told me before he died – treat your woman good…”

‘Easy’ sold well, reaching number 31 in the UK Album Chart soon after its release, and being awarded a Silver Disc for record sales in August, 1976.
